The spa's story
Our history
Le Nordique spa Stoneham was born from the deepest wishes of the owner to realize a dream from his youth – to own his own business. With studies in business administration and experience as management consultant under his belt, the idea of building a Nordic spa came to him as he enjoyed the experience of visiting several such spas in the late 1990’s. The idea started to become reality in 2001, and gained momentum in 2003 with the purchase of of 500,000 square feet of land on the shore of the Jacques Cartier river, and the start of construction in the spring of 2004. On June 24, 2005, the dream became reality with the inauguration of the Nordique spa Stoneham, a name chosen for its affinity with the experience offered as well as to allude to the region’s well-known hockey team.
Since its opening, the Nordique spa Stoneham has continually invested in enlarging the facilities, improving on the client experience, and developing new services.
In 2006, the Nordique spa Stoneham was the first spa of the Quebec City region to obtain the Spas Relais Santé certification. This guaranteed our customers certified care and services, enabling them to benefit from the opportunities for improvement offered by this renowned spa industry association.
In 2007, the Nordique spa Stoneham finished its first enlargement phase with the addition of 4 buildings and the replacement of smaller hot tubs by larger ones. In addition to increasing the spa capacity by 50%, this significantly improved the client experience and the quality of the water in our basins.
In 2008, a second enlargement took place, consisting of a second parking lot, the installation of heated concrete floors around our exterior basins, the landscaping of the section close to the river as well as the addition of a kitchen and an 18-seat dining room in order to offer our customers a light refreshment service.
2010 was a year of innovation for Nordique spa Stoneham. We became the first spa in the province to offer online reservation services. This innovation enabled our customers to book their massages and buy gift certificates instantly, without having to wait for postal delivery, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The addition of an eighth building offering a second steam bath and a dormitory style rest room to our complex enabled us to guarantee the availability of all thermal experiences to our customers even in case of main equipment breakdown. Finally, the inauguration of the Chalet Nordique let us offer a high end housing accommodation located less than 200 meters from the spa facilities.
In January 2012, the Nordique spa Stoneham has become the province’s first spa to offer the renowned European style Aufguss sauna experience to its clientele.
In December 2021, in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, Le Nordique spa Stoneham opened 5 new tiny-houses. A second phase of 5 tiny-houses was completed in July 2022 while a third phase of 4 tiny-houses is planned for 2025, for a total of 14 lodging units.
